Eating disorders are progressive and debilitating illnesses that often require medical, nutritional, and psychological intervention. Wings of Change Counseling, LLC offers advanced groups that address the psychological/mental health aspect of this disorder. Individuals suffering from eating disorders often need a structured environment to achieve recovery. Our advanced treatment group has been designed to meet the individual needs of clients and their families in a way that gives them a higher level of responsibility and "teaches" them how to begin their recovery journey. The atmosphere at Wings of Change Counseling is professional and structured, but also warm, friendly, and supportive. Our dedicated therapists serve as role models, mentors, and teachers, and it is hoped that our environment inspires people to commit to overcoming obstacles that are interfering with the quality of their lives.
The program at Wings of Change Counseling is designed to provide insight development as a way for behavior modifications to occur with clients’ disordered eating. Developing self-awareness, improved self-worth, and higher-level coping skills will allow clients to understand themselves better, especially in relation to their eating patterns/habits. Clients will work on the crucial underlying issues that caused and/or perpetuate their disordered eating and other unhealthy behaviors. The program is made up primarily of therapeutic groups, with a focus on the following, among other things:
- Improving eating behaviors;
- Learning to identify and diffuse triggers for eating disordered behaviors;
- Learning to build crucial emotional regulation skills;
- Improving self-esteem and self worth;
- Learning to lower stress and manage anger more effectively; and
- Understanding body image and developing a new relationship to one's body.
At Wings of Change Counseling, we believe that eating disorders are illnesses which, when treated correctly, can result in recovery that will allow individuals to resume or develop normal, healthy relationships with food and with their bodies and will allow clients to move towards a more enjoyable life where eating disorders are no longer in control.
Our Eating Disorder Advanced Group is an 8-week intensive group experience that meets two days a week, for two and a half hours each day. In order to maximize the benefits of participating in this higher level of care, it is imperative that clients be able to commit to attending all sessions. If you are unable to make this commitment, an advanced program may not be the right placement for you at this time.
