Eating disorders are progressive and debilitating illnesses requiring medical, nutritional, and psychological intervention. Individuals suffering from eating disorders often need a structured environment to achieve recovery. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (“IOP”) has been designed to meet the individual needs of clients and their families in a way that gives them a higher level of responsibility and "teaches" them how to begin their recovery journey. The atmosphere at Wings of Change Counseling is professional and structured, but also warm, friendly, and family like. Our dedicated therapists serve as role models, mentors, and teachers, and it is hoped that our environment inspires people to commit to overcoming obstacles that are interfering with the quality of their lives.
The program at Wings of Change Counseling is designed to provide insight development as a way for behavior modifications to occur with clients’ disordered eating. Developing self-awareness, self-esteem, and higher-level coping skills will allow clients to understand themselves better, especially in relation to their eating patterns/habits. Clients will work on the crucial underlying issues that caused and/or perpetuate their disordered eating and other dysfunctional behaviors. The program is made up primarily of therapeutic groups. Group topics may include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Communication Skills
- Self-esteem Development
- Stress/Anger Management
- Body Image, Women's Issues
- Art Therapy
- Assertiveness Family Therapy
- Sexuality and Abuse
- Life Skills
Wings of Change Counselng’s IOP provides a structured schedule in a comfortable and inviting setting. Our program is designed to provide clients with life skills they can continue upon completion of the program and insights that will help clients change how they view and understand themselves.
At Wings of Change Counseling, we believe that eating disorders are illnesses which, when treated correctly, can result in full recovery allowing an individual to resume a normal, healthy relationship to food and a more enjoyable, eating-disorder free life.
Our Eating Disorder IOP is an 8-week intensive program that meets three days a week, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. In order to maximize the benefits of participating in an intensive outpatient program, it is imperative that clients be able to commit to attending all sessions. If you are unable to make this commitment, an IOP may not be the right placement for you.
